REGIONAL EDIBLE PROTOTYPE GARDEN, BROOKWOOD
This the number 7 on our list of London Buildings.
This garden is located on a triangle of lawn on the junction of Lancaster Street and Webber Street by Brookwood House. It is the London version of Fritz Haeg’s Edible Estates project, which began in 2005 in the US as an initiative to replace American front lawns with gardens composed of only edible plants. Haeg worked with local volunteers and residents of Brookwood House, with the support of the Open Spaces Trust, and created the garden over a long weekend in 2007. Haeg uses the plants to create his vision, using vines and beans to provide height and mounded beds to separate the plants. The garden invites us to explore our relationship with food production and with our neighbouring urban green spaces.
MINT STREET PARK, SOUTHWARK
Mint Street Park is an open space in the Borough of Southwark on the site of the old Evelina Children's Hospital. There is an adventure playground adjacent, which is used by school children as an open area. At the moment is one of the biggest green areas inside the Forest Urban Bankside Project.
